Businesses' Could Benefit From Installing Cycling Facilities

Businesses that encourage their workforce to cycle will find there are "a lot of advantages" to be enjoyed through this.

Adam Dayson, bicycle brand manager, says many companies struggle to provide enough car parking spaces, but that they could make up for this by having facilities installed for those travelling on two wheels.

He adds that encouraging a workforce to cycle to the office could also help employers promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle and show off their green credentials.

During Green Transport week, which finished yesterday (June 26th), the Environmental Transport Association suggested that employers offer a cash bonus as an alternative to a company car and that they invest in bike parking spaces and showers for those workers who cycle to the office.

Recently, TRL announced the release of its CERS (Cycling Environment Review System) for inclusion in the TRL streetaudit specialist software package.

CERS can be used to evaluate key cycling routes to work, so that employers can give personalised travel information to employees with different cycling skill levels.

TRL can also work with employers to increase the uptake of cycling in organisations through a variety of educational and promotional programmes, exploring attitudes to cycling and working towards achieving green travel targets.
